ZESCO Initiates Feasibility Study to Boost Power Generation

Share

ZESCO Limited is conducting a feasibility study to explore the potential of using available water resources to enhance power generation capabilities.

Clement Siame, Deputy Director of the Kafue River Basin, announced that a consultant has been engaged to maximize water retention in the Itezhi Tezhi Dam. Mr. Siame explained that the Itezhi Tezhi Lake has been experiencing low water levels due to the impact of climate change. The lake is crucial as it supplies water for electricity generation at three power stations along the Kafue River Basin.

Mr. Siame made these remarks while leading a team of ZESCO officials and over 20 Members of Parliament on a familiarization tour of the Itezhi Tezhi power station in Southern Province. He emphasized that ZESCO is actively exploring alternative measures to ensure a continuous supply of electricity despite reduced water levels.

Itezhi Tezhi Member of Parliament, Twaambo Mutinta, praised the government for its proactive measures to address the power challenges facing the country.

  1. Feasibility studies when zesco is on its knees
Or dead does not make sense. They should
Have put measures to start load shedding
Earlier so Zambians would not have these
    Long hours of load shedding.

  2. For 60 years ZESCO has been doing feasibility studies just wasting money and nothing comes out…we still waiting for Bazungu to come and sort out our electricity problems…..

    • Yes ,when the World Bank engages bazungu for feasibility studies,we will start clapping. When our own ZESCO does that ,we complain. What do you want mwe bena Zambia kanshi?
The load shedding is not an act of incompetence, but an act of nature. When We compare Zambia with Botswana , we forget that Botswana has abundant supply of coal which is used to generated power. Unless the government establishes another coal plant in Kazungula to use coal from Botswana, then we have to be at the mercy of climate change.

  5. @Katana
Tell that to the Supreme leader Ayatollah Hakainde Hichilema…when he was in opposition loadsheding was as a result of incompetence…….and yes Dubai is a desert…..they have no rivers….why can’t we start renewable energy as opposed to Hydro

  6. Ha! I hope you are engaging a local Electrical engineering expert. It is not the color that matters but competence to provide the needed services. We have more that enough Electrical engineering experts trained at home and abroad.
