Share

President Hakainde Hichilema has officially accepted the resignation of Mr. Thom Trevor Shamakamba from his position as Director General of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC). The announcement was made on July 16, 2024, by Clayson Hamasaka, Chief Communications Specialist at State House.

President Hichilema expressed his gratitude to Mr. Shamakamba for his dedicated service to the Government of the Republic of Zambia and extended his best wishes for Shamakamba’s future endeavors.

Mr. Shamakamba’s resignation marks a significant change in the leadership of the ACC, an institution critical in the fight against corruption in Zambia. The government is expected to announce a successor who will continue the efforts to combat corruption and uphold transparency and accountability within the public sector.

Mr. Shamakamba was appointed as Director General of the ACC by President Hichilema on December 21, 2022. During his tenure, he played a pivotal role in the commission’s efforts to address corruption and promote ethical practices within the government.

The resignation of the ACC Director General comes at a time when the government is intensifying its efforts to combat corruption and ensure good governance. The new leadership at the ACC will be tasked with continuing these efforts and strengthening the institution’s role in maintaining integrity within Zambia’s public sector.

    • LT LT LT, isnt it time you stopped giving us half-cooked stories? We are in the 21st century now and many of us are educated-and we are on the internet. So we need educated and informed reports.
Why has this guy resigned? Is it because he threatened to eliminate a UNZA lecturer? Dr Kaaba who wrote a critic on ACC was told he would be sorted out by this Shamakamba.
Or is it because ACC failed to investigate Solicitor General Marshal Muchende over the US $500,000 he is alleged to have received from a former liquidator? Dig and tell us

    • No death sentence in Zambia.
If Muchende was a North Korean, he could have excuted at dawn on Friday.

  1. The only reason he has been removed – and make no mistake he has been removed – is because he failed to hide the corruption in upnd. If the board had not spoken out in public and had just continued writing to hh, nothing would have happened.

  3. This is the most corrupt government we have ever had. At least PF and MMD were afraid of exposing themselves. But these ones think we’re blind and deaf and dull.

    • They are doing everything that they accused PF of doing. Politicians! They are so chameleonic!! May be we should ask football coaches to run the country. They have misused 4 billion dollars in two years!! What will happen in five years?

  4. He was asked to resign because he refuse to obey orders like the way the IG does. Under Ichilemas dictatorship, you have to be a zombie to survive.

  5. Lawyers have lamentably failed at law enforcement functions. A celebrated lawyer at one time started issuing nolles to his friends when he was given an opportunity to serve as DPP. As a lawyer, Shamakamba earned a living by defending lawbreakers. Criminals are his clients so he’s used to defending lawbreakers. So he found his new role of fighting criminals difficult because he couldn’t send his clients to prison. He’s done well to get back to his private practice.

  6. A person has resigned because he’s been accused of receiving kickbacks and in turn shielding corrupt elements. That’s the individual Hichilema sees fit to thank for his dedicated service? Either he doesn’t mean what he’s said or he’s out of his mind! What we expect is an immediate institution of investigations into those allegations. Jokes aside

  7. I can not remember any ACC director general who has been accused of corruption in the past and resigned. Shamakamba’s case means this is the most corrupt govt we have ever had. What more in other govt depts. PF were petty thieves but these are grand corrupt government officials.

  8. He has been fired but of course to save face told to resign because of the expose by one of the board members and whom he also threatened after the expose.

  9. Here is a list of more UPND cadres needing to resign:
Graphel Musamba for failure to understand his job. The police are not UPND police dogs who go chasing the opposition in churches and broadcasting stations- they are there to provide security to all citizens. And also for his sergeant Susan Yuyi’s corrupt practices
Douglas Syakalima, who insulted the people of Luapula as suffering from poverty of the mind.
Gary Nkombo, for forcing Kachasu down the throat of a minor
Thabo Kawana: who has no job description and does nothing but wait for a monthly pay check from our taxes
