Guntilla Muleya, the Director General of the Independent Broadcasting Authority (IBA), was found dead with two gunshot wounds in Lusaka’s Njolwe area. Muleya was reported to have been abducted after leaving work on Tuesday, July 23rd.
The Ministry of Information Permanent Secretary, Thabo Kawana, confirmed the tragic news and expressed condolences to Muleya’s family on behalf of the government. Kawana called for a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding Muleya’s death.
The police received a report from a member of the public in the Njolwe area. The witness reported seeing a vehicle, believed to be a Pajero, with its doors open, followed by hearing two gunshots on the night of July 23rd. The next morning, on July 24th, the witness discovered Muleya’s body on the ground while on his way to work.
Police spokesperson Rae Hamoonga stated that the police found Muleya’s body with two bullet wounds, one on the back and another on the forehead, along with two bullet cartridges at the scene. An identity card found in Muleya’s pocket confirmed his identity as the IBA Director General.
A case of murder has been opened, and investigations are ongoing.
I was about to ask if they already queried Thabo Kawana, but he already said something, methodolically.
@Nostadamus what has Thabo got to do with this? Are you normal? Leave Thabo out of your nonsense!
Iwe Pilato IBA falls under the galivanting PS’s ministry
What is the gain in killing a fellow human being. Things are not well in this country and our leadership should not be like Nero. The man was not killed for mere killing. Let’s not bury our heads in the sand and pretend all is okay. ZCCM IH has purged managers all from one area…. where will their replacement come from?
Who would want to kill Guntila Muleya? Was it a matter of being in the ‘wrong’ place at the ‘wrong’ time or the killers had been watching him for some time? It was a gruesome murder from what the Police have said. I hope the Police will find Muleya’s killers.
This very cruel.
The report says Muleya was reported to have been abducted after leaving work on Tuesday, July 23rd, so clearly he was targeted for some unknown reasons. A tragic event and hopefully the perpetrators would be apprehended and brought to book.
“After leaving work…” At Mass media Complex? Where soldiers have a base?
What are these kidnappings about? Ba IG its getting to much. It was first JAY JAY……He survived but is no longer the same. Then Yango drivers kidnapped and killed. Then this innocent Soul! . These kidnappings call for a ministerial statement from JACK MWIIMBU.
I agree, Lundwe. There has been a spate of kidnappings and murders in Zambia. But because the victims were no-name Yango drivers, the situation did not attract sustained media interest. Jack Mwiimbu and state institutions he supervises had better up their game. I also have reason to worry about the Department of Immigration. I doubt it the DoI is really scrutinising who should be allowed into the country. Secondly, Zambia Police Service is never given an obligation to disclose the source of military-grade fire-arms that its officers sometimes seizes from criminals.
Bring back the death penalty for such callous murders.
To start with why was it removed in first place.
@Deja Vu it was to look civilised in front of those we beg from
This is unfortunate, anyone can be abducted and killed and as such, it is best to watch movements and add unpredictability into movements. It is also important for such important roles to come with some level of security. That said, it is unfortunate that all important roles are going to “Muleya’s”. It is sad that Guntilla died by the gun.
dead and rottern leadership at all levels
Life is sacred. Whatever your differences, and whatever the motive don’t take another’s life in this manner. When karma knocks on your door you’d not know what hit you. Can you imagine if such murderers were caught wouldn’t it be right to sentence them to death? How can we plead to spare their lives when they don’t respect other people’s lives?
Given his name you bet he was having illegal canal knowledge of someone’s wife! In his part of the country, if they do not catch you stuck inside puxxy “Runyoka” style, they will hire a “Karavinas” to eliminate you.
According to one Zimbabwean, Runyoka is also known as the Central African Locking System.
People with low IQ already are bringing the tribal card to the fore. We all know that Muleya is from that province, but what does that got do with his demise? Zambians please wake up. There are so many things to do.
I dont know. Which province? My Grade 1 and 2 classmate was Muleya from Chinsali

Guntila was a promising young man with a lot of ambition and promise. Whatever this is killing was really not a good reason to resolve it. MHSRIP. Please desist from trash talk. This is already one life too many.
ECL remains my President even in death,,,
The Zambia i left 30 years ago is very different from the Zambia of today….Murder was unheard of 30 years ago in Zambia…very rare but now its Murder Murder Murder Murder and it has gotten worse for the past 3 years….since August 12
Very true Anonymous, Zambia has gotten more callous ,the society is socially more rotten and greedier and our women more promiscuous.
