Inside Job: Guntila Muleya’s Murder Linked to IBA Colleagues

Share

The brutal murder of Guntila Muleya, the Director General of the Independent Broadcasting Authority (IBA), has been revealed as an inside job financed by his colleagues, according to the latest investigations.

Muleya, who failed to arrive home from work on Tuesday, was found dead on Wednesday morning at Palabana NAPSA Housing. His body, discovered on a gravel road, bore two bullet wounds, one on the back and the other on the head. A closer examination revealed a deep bullet wound on his forehead.

Muleya’s murder sent shockwaves across the country, prompting widespread calls for the arrest of his killers. In a significant development, Zambia Police Service spokesperson Rae Hamoonga announced the arrest of four suspects in connection with Muleya’s murder. The identities of those apprehended were not disclosed, but it was revealed that two are regular police officers, one is a reserve police officer, and the fourth is a civilian.

The police have recovered Muleya’s Pajero from the suspects, along with two other motor vehicles, K129,300 in cash, gadgets, and flash disks. Additionally, the suspects were found in possession of three firearms, including two pistols and an AK-47 rifle, as well as a collection of knives.

Hamoonga assured that investigations are ongoing and that the public will be informed of the outcome once it is appropriate to do so, cautioning that premature disclosure could compromise the investigation. “We would like to extend our gratitude to the public for their cooperation and support during this investigation,” said Hamoonga. “Our sincere condolences go out to the family of Mr. Guntila Muleya and the members of staff at the Independent Broadcasting Authority during this difficult time.”

Police sources close to the investigation revealed to Kalemba that Muleya’s murder was financed by individuals within the IBA who were unhappy with his anti-corruption efforts. “Upon his appointment, the gentleman instituted corruption investigations within the organization, and some people were not happy. So they hired someone to abduct him and break his legs so that he would go on a long sick leave,” a source told Kalemba.

The source added that the civilian hired to do the job subcontracted the police officers. Unfortunately, Muleya recognized one of the officers, prompting them to kill him to avoid identification. The investigation has uncovered that the shooter was a member of the Scorpion Squad operating from Lusaka Central Police, related to a prominent Lusaka lawyer. Another implicated officer operates from Chelstone Police Station, while the third is a reserve officer.

Police sources also disclosed that the killers received K100,000 each from their sponsors, with one of the suspects having fled the country.

As the investigation continues, more arrests are expected, ensuring that those responsible for Muleya’s murder face justice.

    • Bob Marley sang that song Ambush in the Night. You see how prophetic he was.

Those that smile at you are the ones that come after you. An enemy is better than a friend because with an enemy you know what to expect but with friends and associates you never know, the can be plotting against you and you won’t even know when they strike.

  1. This murder will reveal a lot. It’s good that even Muleya’s official vehicle has been recovered. Go for it Zambia Police. Congratulations for finding the bastards, (what else are they?).

  2. I am not surprised that it was an inside job organised by people at his place of work. The truth of the matter is that us Zambians do not like each other and for some reason we do not like people from Southern Province particularly when they take up managerial role in organizations and Government.

    • You started okay but spoil it with tribal sentiments. This is not the right time for such. You are injuring the bereaved family further by such insinuation.

    • This mind set has led to the behaviour we see in Hakainde. No tribe in Zambia hates another tribe. It is either the tribe itself is tribal of outright selfish. KK should be commended for having seen this and introduced free education as well as making sure that we intermarried. This was the only way to slow down the ugly head of tribalism. However we saw the resistance from some tribes that were tribal. This, most of us saw in schools, places of work etc were small groups of certain tribal groupings gathered by themselves. It was all there for all to see. This should not even be talked about 60 years into independence. It is primitive regardless of the level of education one has.

    • What a brainless post. This fake Chisha Banda who actually is Spaka has poor logic and communication skills. I didnt know that US ZAMBIANS do not like people from Southern Province. So Zambians from Mazabuka and Choma and Zimba do not like people from Southern Province! Or Is he referring to the Southern province of Zimbabwe or Madagascar?

    • It’s not the President who abolished the death penalty but it was we as a nation through the representative organ the national assembly. The whole world is actually turned towards the total abolition of the archaic law.

  5. This was just theft pure and simple. There is no conspiracy here. The robbers saw an opportunity ambushed him, he probably resisted which lead to him being shot and they went away with his possessions.

  6. I sympathize with this barbaric and brutal death. When a MP from Eastern province was abducted, investigations received headwinds. To date there is no progress. On this murder, the State is not leaving any stones unturned. What can one make of this? Selectivity.

  9. Who is a Black man’s enemy? A Black man’s enemy can be systemic racism, oppression, and discrimination. It can be the biases and prejudices that perpetuate inequality and injustice. It can also be internalised self-doubt and self-hatred, fueled by generations of negative stereotypes and marginalisation. But ultimately, a Black man’s greatest enemy can be the denial of his humanity, dignity, and right to thrive. Why do we hate each other so much? Is a Black man‘s enemy himself?

    • You make it sound like there are murders and homicide in other races with different skin colours. I would argue the insecurities and self-doubt are in you. Violence is not embedded into one’s DNA or colour of their skin. Majority of these are individual traits and nurture and society influenced. I would argue we have relatively much less violence and murders in Zambia than in most countries with people of different skin colour. So!

  10. I wouldn’t trust any “arrest” the Zambia police makes while at the same time they say “investigations are on-going”. These would be really dumb murderers who would kill someone and then continue driving their vehicle publicly while also in possession of their belongings. Doesn’t make any sense. If cops were suspects and were truly involved they would destroy evidence properly.
I say please go back and do thorough investigations. MHSRIP!

  11. Like all stories from Zambia this leaves a lot to be desired. “Unfortunately, Muleya recognized one of the officers, prompting them to kill him to avoid identification” so then who gave the reporter this information since Muleya has been murdered and could not have told anyone about who he had recognised?
Hamoonga didnt say anything of the sort at his conference.

    • You can make a good investigator my friend. Yea did the deceased tell them that I recognised one of them……? Very incriminating.

  12. Jigga and to my fellow Black men – I am deeply troubled by the senseless violence and hatred we inflict on each other. Why do we take each other’s lives and perpetuate harm within our own community? I am not comparing our actions to those of other races or justifying them by saying we commit fewer atrocities. I am calling out the pain we cause each other.

Let us confront the reality of our own destructive behavior and work together to break the cycle of violence and hate. We must hold ourselves accountable and strive for a culture of love, respect, and upliftment.

Let us condemning these atrocities and seeking solutions to heal our community. Tomorrow it could be you, your loved one or friend. I salute and close.
