The Zambia Medicine Regulatory Authority (ZAMRA) has disclosed that the initial test results for the Chinese Contraceptive pill have indicated that it is not a herbal drug and has long lasting side effects.Speaking at a Press briefing in Lusaka today, ZAMRA Director Medicine Control, Zuma Munkombwe noted that the Chinese Contraceptives is not a registered drug.

Dr. Munkombwe said the pills quality and safety is not yet certified in the country and has since called on all Chinese health facilities to stop dispensing it.

He said what is sad is that on the packaging the instructions and the ingredients are in Chinese which does not conform to the standards of the country.

He said what is sad is that on the packaging the instructions and the ingredients are in Chinese which does not conform to the standards of the country.

Dr. Munkombwe said ZAMRA made investigations on the alleged pill, inspected premises and tested the efficacy.

He said as things stand, ZAMRA has certified the Chinese contraceptive pill not fit for the Zambian market.

Dr. Munkombwe said it was discovered that the Chinese pill has two active hormes with very high content and long lasting side effect because of its high dosage.

He said the Chinese that own the facilities that dispense the pill have been warned to desist from stocking the pill.

Dr. Munkombwe said it is sad that the same pills are brought into the country in briefcases and are not declared at the point of entry.

He said like any other drug, there is need to follow the right procedure and if a drug is illegal it must attract a fine.

    • If you value your life, stay away from consuming Chinese anything. Yes you can wear their cheap shoes and cheap handbags but don’t under any certain circumstances eat or swallow anything made in China especially medicine.

  1. The Chinese debt is really undermining our legal system. Why just warn them, they need to be penalized. As a naive in legal issues i feel the following offenses have been committed.

1, Illegal importation, guess what else they have.
    2. Ignored ZAMRA procedures
    3. The product is harming the health of our citizens.
4, There was a deliberate plan to avoid paying tax.

  2. …so surprising..why say as things stand…as if there is chance to change tables and make the same wrong pill right??? It’s typical pa Zed, a failed pill will pass later and reasons will be given to pass it…..it’s quite a shame wants happening in this nation…Am really failing to understand what’s become of us…..it’s even more shocking that we have people using this pill…all for what…for f…all we want….believe me I wouldn’t risk my life with any Chinese product…..it’s all fake and sadly they have found market for all the nonsense they can think of……all because we have sank too low….way too low that we can’t make/manufacture anything….nothing at all apart from the gonga drinks that have flooded the local market…..

  3. Really? “…pills quality and safety is not yet certified in the country and has since called on all Chinese health facilities to stop dispensing it.” Not yet certified, so is there an intention then to certify it later on? Why not just say, bane ama choncho-li, your drugs are rub.bish so get them off the shelves once and for all.

So is ZAMRA asking the choncho-li just to withdraw and without any legal implications? What will prevent them to repackage and use a different name?

  4. Why do Chinese get away with everything in Zed? They kill people, they wear police uniforms, they grab people’s land they sell illegal muthi

  5. A blood pressure pill called Valsartan has been recalled here because consignments which originated from Zhejiang Huahai Pharmaceuticals in China and Camber Pharmaceuticals in India were found to have a stomach cancer causing impurity called NDMA ( N- nitrosodimethylamine ). Just saying

  6. If it was a Zambian found with these drugs they could have destroyed those drugs, but because it’s Chinese, the boss will fire us if we destroy them. Shame!!. Why warning them on something very serious, life threatening. In china such can’t happen!! You can face the wrath of the law not in Zambia where anyone is free to abuse…….corruption….
