The Law Association of Zambia (LAZ) has issued a strong condemnation of the divisive statements made by some opposition Members of Parliament, warning that such rhetoric has the potential to incite conflict among citizens.
In a statement released to ZNBC News, LAZ President Lungisani Zulu expressed alarm over remarks that seem to promote divisions along tribal and regional lines. He emphasized that national unity should never be sacrificed for any cause or difference.
Mr. Zulu highlighted the importance of remembering that Zambia’s strength lies in its diversity. He pointed out that the various challenges facing society can only be effectively addressed by leveraging the unique differences in opinions and skills across the nation.
“LAZ’s position is that there is no cause or difference worth sacrificing national unity,” Zulu stated. He urged all citizens to embrace the national motto, “One Zambia – One Nation,” and to uphold the constitutionally prescribed national principles and values of patriotism and unity.
Furthermore, Mr. Zulu called on political leaders to refrain from making statements that could foster division and instead to work towards promoting harmony and cohesion among all Zambians. He stressed that political discourse should always be geared towards building a united and inclusive society.
This is hardly a matter for LAZ.Give us a draft Zambian Constitution so we can assess your rigor.Too much stakeholder consultations and referendums that only produce constitutions full of lacunas
LAZ as everyone else has a right to criticise. Politicians that make inflammatory comments should be suspended from the house and dealth with my a community of MP made up from all the different parties. Standards must be upheld
Mr Zulu personally I don’t support the utterances we are witnessing these days especially that my family is multi tribal…. but you should have gone further and advise those in government to be sincere… when people feel oppressed they will resort to such things like the current utterances. We cannot not afford to go back to those old days where people like Nkoloma were hacked to death because of political differences based on tribal lines.

The root cause,my friend, is the late president Michel Sata.Tribalism was exemplified when he decided to mutilate provinces placing certain tribes in other provinces and then established three public universities in his home region to the exclusion of others.Favored regional appointments can also be traced to him.Then there was a certain Post Newspaper,the owner and Managing Editor was a well known tribal and seditious character.What followed is the tribal spiral Zambians are experiencing today

Mr Zulu here is case as an example..in a drinking place someone complains: UNO MWAKA TULEFWA KUNSALA. Unknown to him someone reports him to the police and within minutes the police arrive at the club and the poor chap is picked up. Luckily for him he finds a sensible officer who after the interview let’s go with the advice that he should his mouth for drinking only or he should completely avoid the club.

It is like this: I was “informed” that I will “feel it” the way “we were feeling it when you people were in charge”. Now, I am a diasporan with a very international family (none of my kids was even born here). However, I happen to have been in charge because of my name. So I struggled to get a few things sorted in the little time I had in Zambia because “I was in charge”. In short, let service to the public be free of non.sense and innuendos. When you study the voting pattern in the last 3 presidential elections you’d notice that Zambia is already divided. And it’s very unfortunate that crime is being attached to tribal politics. How the State reacts to some matters like the Jay Jay Banda issue matters. So far it’s not been impressive. This kind of panic doesn’t inspire at all
Context please… what tribal remarks were said? Some of us are not on this forum 24/7 so don’t assume everyone knows the current or recent affairs of Zambia.
