How to get high mileage from Toyota Hilux

Share

Toyota cars are still in great demand in Zambia.Toyota supply a broad range of vehicles like pickup trucks, cars etc.

Toyota Hilux is the most popular model of Toyota and it is categorized as off road transportation. Here are some tips on how to get the most mileage out of your Toyota Hilux.

Understanding the mechanism and working of Toyota Hilux.

  • Servicing must be done at regular intervals.
  • Engine of the vehicle is the heart of the vehicle so it must be maintained properly. Check that the engine is healthy and is cleaned from unwanted slush.
  • Maintain the record of servicing and go through the report of every service. Make note of mentioned points.
  • Follow the dates of next servicing as mentioned in the manual booklet.
  • Mileage gets affected in the cold season. Toyota Hilux gives low mileage in cold atmosphere. Therefore plan the speed accordingly so the driver can make the least use of breaks. The less you break more you get mileage.
  • Follow necessary limited-access highway speeds to get effective mileage.
  • Fast speed reduces the mileage.
  • Checking the quality of oil, which Toyota Hilux engine uses, is necessary to maintain its mileage. Always go for better oils and the ones that are recommended as per engine configurations.
  • Make a habit of changing Toyota Hilux’s oil after three to four months or after 4000 Kilometers to gain high mileage.
  • Air in the tires of Toyota Hilux must be checked regularly to avoid accidents. Bursting of tires occurs because of low air pressure
  • See whether the car is having some leakage or some coolant issues. This might affect the mileage.
  • Replace the air filter on regular basis every time you service the vehicle

The condition of the any vehicle depends upon the user. It is recommended that go for a Toyota Hilux that suits your personality and demands

Selecting a superior and certified mechanic for maintaining the Toyota Hilux is necessary. Keeping the car in dry cool enviroment is very important when it is not in use. Taking some safety measures to protect the vehicle is very important. A Toyota engine, which has a higher displacement, will always give low mileage as compared to an engine having low displacement.
During cold whether always ensure that the engine is warm before you drive off.A cold engine always uses more fuel compared to a warm engine.

  1. Thats more like it LT thats good start you are being informative please if possible you also cover engine systems that have,
    TURBO CHARGERS
    AIR TO FUEL RATIO(AFR)
    SUPERCHARGER
the dos and the donts of the above mentioned systems

  2. Ha ha ha ha ke ke kekekeke….I can tell that most bloggers are John walkers, keep walking. Nowadays they are no comments…..esp fro our friends in pf. Only sata their neck drives.

  3. Come on, these so called tips on ‘how to get the most milage from Toyota Hilux’ apply to all cars. What a poor article!

  4. THis is a good job by LT. Congratulations. I didn’t know you can be creative at times. Keep them coming.

  5. Yes LT this is a good and refleshing move away from the usual stories about Sata,RB and HH. But let the author also write about simple cars such as Mark11, Collora, Corser which are driven by majority of us poor people. Last time there was an expensive vehicle being discussed whose name i have just forgotten. Today there is Toyota Hiux which is also another expensive car for the “Apambwamba” such as JIMBO. Next week bakalembeko pali Toyota cresta, Toyota Mark 2, Toyota Corolla etc. These are vehicles driven by us poor civil servants. Kuti wasambililako something on how to maintain a simple car. Natasha m’kwai!!!!!!

  6. ALL TOYOTAS ARE MADE TO LAST LONGER THAN MOST OTHER CARS AND MITSHBITSHI VEHICLES ARE ALSO NUMBER SELLERS IN EUROPE AND WORTH EVERY PENNY SPENT .KEEP IT UP TOYOTA AND MITSHUBISHI MANUFACTURERAS.KEEP PRODUCING YOUR LOVELY VEHICLES

  7. thanks LT, but i thought that mileage is read from the odometer i.e. kilometres travelled, so how does less breaking, fast speed, engine oil, cold weather etc affect mileage? i mean it is 15 kilometres from town to chimwemwe township regardless of the above factors isn’t it? someone enlighten me pleaseeee!

  8. okay remove “less breaking” above if that means skidding, since the mileage is calcualted from the wheel speed. but help me to understand the rest and breaking without speeding of course, pleaseeeee!

  9. This is a poor article and I dare say on the wrong forum too. LT you are news, blogging site. There are peope better suited and qualified to do such an article. First of all as another blogger has pointed out, the tips above apply to all type of vehiclse and not just Toyota Hilux. So Im tempted to ask are you doing some advertising for Toyota or what.

  10. Secondly what you meakt is ‘braking’ as from the work ‘brake’ and not breaking. Thirdly as others ahve pointed out again you miss-use the word ‘mileage’ in this article. Mileage is measured by the distance you travel and is indicated by the odometer. So none of the things you mentioned above will change the mileage in the context that you used it. You might maybe get more mileage per litre of petrol if you take care of your hilux.. get it!!

  11. @5 tribalist, did you say that the article was done by a staffer of the post “newspaper”, johnstone chikwanda. uhmmm, now that says something.

  12. “Mileage is the number of miles traveled over in a given time. The word mileage is often associated with cars and relates to the number of mile that have been covered or the total distance that that car has traveled in its life time. People say “this car has good mileage” meaning that is has not traveled very far and therefore would be in good condition.” NOW HOW DOES TEMPERATURE, SPEED AFFECT MILEAGE HERE? MILEAGE IS NOT THE SAME AS THE LIFE SPAN OF THE CAR. RIGHT-TIME CAR SERVICE PROLONGS DURABILITY.

  13. People people people, mileage in this context is refering to the same mileage you are all refering to except here it refers to the km covered before you can have that vehicle of yours on the rocks because its no longer economical to keep on repairing.
TOYOTA means CAR 4 AFRICA. Ni zee bakamba. no complications like the others. Try putting ordinary diesel in your turbo charged & aircooled ISUZU ? You will have to pay 4 repairs with your pension. ati only cleaner diesel?? for the turbo charged & aircooled TOYOTA shown in the pic above nizee. nothing like cleaner diesel because This Is Africa (TIA).

  14. Look after your car and it will look after you by not breaking down .
An article on Toyota mk2 , cresta, corsa etc would be really good . Most cars in uk are smaller and more basic than these so don’t feel they are ‘ cheaper ‘ , models , in Britain they would fall under the luxury bracket
